Since moving to NYC, Nigerian DJ Akanbi has refined his style of mixing that unifies “freak-out boogie music, sensual rollers, whip-crack bangers, insistent percussion, Afrobeat goodness, deep thumping low frequencies & slow-burning experimental descents”. Meanwhile, he's blended open-mindedness, wild dance floors, radical politics and undeniable talent in his club night Groovy Groovy. He'll be joined by local hero Ziúr, known not just for her brilliant releases on the likes of Planet Mu and Hakuna Kalala but her DJ skills, virtuosically using her CDJs like instruments not just to press “play” but to chop, loop and distort tracks until they bend to her will.
