Berlin-based DJ/producer LYZA makes her debut at Berghain. Known as part of the duo Lyric and Amsterdam collective Vault Sessions, she pushes a conception of techno that bridges the gap between hypnotic stringency and a physically palpable, dark atmosphere. In her sets, she dispenses with shrill peak-time signifiers, instead cultivating a progressive, minimalistic approach based on precise, driving basslines. This kind of functional understatement fills the space not with volume but with a continuous, almost meditative build-up of tension. While Brian Leeds has explored the boundaries of ambient and outsider house as Huerco S., as Loidis, he is set on a very specific, almost tender interpretation of house. His album One Day, issued via Incensio, was hailed as one of the best releases of 2024. Leeds himself ironically describes his sound as “dub mnml emo tech”, a description of a reduced micro-house interspersed with dub chords, deeply rooted in the aesthetics of the early 00s.
