It's been exactly 35 years since Virgin Records UK released the compilation Techno! The New Dance Sound of Detroit, which played no small part in establishing the term for what at the time was still a mostly unknown variant of electronic music in the rest of the world. The working title had been The House Sound of Detroit until Juan Atkins submitted his track “Techno Music”, inspired by Alvin Toffler's sci-fi book The Third Wave – the rest is history. That house music has always had a place in Detroit's creative community alongside its stricter sibling techno is evidenced not least by tonight's guest DJs DJ Minx, Robert Hood aka Floorplan and Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale at Panorama Bar for this edition of Klubnacht. Minx founded the female DJ collective and platform Women On Wax back in 1996 and in 2016 was named "best house music DJ of all time" by Time Out New York magazine. Similarly, the fanbase of Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale, who has been DJing for four decades, is not at a loss for superlatives, revering her as the “godmother of house music”.
