Borshch Magazine launches Letters to Kyiv, an event series and upcoming print publication. The publication will feature a collection of letters from the residents of Kyiv distressed and displaced by the russian invasion of Ukraine. Artists, writers, and cultural workers from Kyiv will express their gratitude, heartache, and longing for the magnificent city they chose as their home and a place of power.
For the first night at Kantine, Ukrainian artists Nastya Vogan and Maryana Klochko prepare their special live performances, transforming glitches of memories into music, melting grief into poetry, using voice as a wire that connects the past and the future.
Inspired by the collage-like idea for the book and collective memoir, Space Afrika will join with a DJ set. The duo made their name with dub techno-soaked sonic impressions of the grey streets of their hometown Manchester. On this night, they will think of Kyiv — the hometown of fellow artists who cannot go home easily anymore.
Laura Croft, a big admirer of the hyped Kyiv’s dancefloors – now empty or turned into shelters – will close the night with her stubborn hot vinyl selection, paying respect to the Ukrainian clubbing community and the memories they share.
